Leo C. Byrne Residence Fund
Stewarded by the Catholic Community Foundation on behalf of the Leo C. Byrne Residence Trust
Constructed in 1995, the Leo C. Byrne Residence is located on South Mississippi River Boulevard near the University of Saint Thomas and adjacent to the Saint Paul Seminary and School of Divinity. It offers 29 individual apartments for priests who have reached retirement age, many of whom continue to actively serve parishes and organizations around the Archdiocese of St. Paul & Minneapolis.
As a result of the building’s age, original design issues, and years of limited investment, the facility is in need of extensive renovation and upgrades. The total cost of recommended work is $6.5M. With this in mind, the fundraising target is $11M to allow for a dedicated ongoing maintenance fund.
The Leo C. Byrne Residence Trust
The Leo C. Byrne Residence Trust was created to ensure donated funds are used exclusively for the purposes of renovating and maintaining the Residence.
The charitable trust is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization whose purpose is to own, maintain, and operate the Leo C. Byrne Residence for retired priests of the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis. The Trust is an irrevocable public charity.
The Trust has partnered with CCF to steward the fund. CCF invests the fund in alignment with our Catholic faith and grants money to the Trust to be used for renovations and ongoing maintenance expenses.
